"Take Me With You"

In 1995 I went to Rwanda and worked at Kibogora Mission on the hills above Lake Kivu.  It was one of the most remarkable places I have ever experienced.  This scene was a couple hundred meters down from where I lived.  For me the painting sums up something of the feeling I had of the situation then – the boy so obviously wanting to get on the boats and sail away, but there was a barrier of water.

Rwanda was a very strange place to be at that time – so beautiful but with a very tangible darkness.
